“Yallah! Underground” chronicles the journey of some of the most impactful and forward-thinking artists in the Arab underground scene from 2009 to 2013, capturing their creative endeavors, aspirations, and anxieties during a period of significant transformation in Arab societies. In a region fraught with tension, young Middle Eastern artists have long battled to express themselves openly and advocate for more progressive values within their communities. Amidst the Arab Spring, these emerging artists, like many of their generation, were optimistic about the future and actively participated in the protests. Yet, after enduring years of chaos and instability, young Arabs now face the challenge of confronting both longstanding and emerging issues, caught between a sense of disillusionment and a faint hope for a brighter future.
