In a traditional English village, Edith Swan and her neighbors are shocked when they start receiving malicious letters filled with unintentionally comical obscenities. The blame quickly falls on Rose Gooding, Edith’s boisterous and outspoken Irish immigrant neighbor. The mysterious letters cause a nationwide scandal, leading to a trial. However, as the local women, spearheaded by Police Officer Gladys Moss, delve into their own investigation, they begin to doubt Rose’s guilt and suspect that the true perpetrator might be someone else.
