In 1920s Paris, Victoria Grant (played by Julie Andrews), a singer struggling to find work, encounters a recently dismissed, flamboyant gay man at a diner. He persuades her to disguise herself as a man who performs as a female impersonator to secure employment. Her performance becomes a sensation at a local nightclub, but the situation becomes tangled when King Marchan (Michael Nouri), a gangster and nightclub owner from Chicago, develops romantic feelings for “her.” This story was captured live on stage on Broadway in 1995.
