David starts to recall hazy memories of a previous life filled with violence, a life he led before relocating to America, where an accident robbed him of his memory and sight. Under the guidance of Don Michele, he was once a favored member of the brutal Sicilian Cortello family—a family he eventually betrayed. Now, he is on the run from his merciless mafia life in New York City, part of a family led by the volatile and unpredictable Don Federico, who, unbeknownst to David, is his half-brother. David sets off on a journey back to his Italian roots. While traveling by train, he meets a mysterious woman and Father Leonard (played by Danny Glover), who feels a connection between them and senses that David is burdened by his past. However, the priest harbors his own dark secret, having killed the infamous Williams (played by Steven Bauer) long ago. As Don Federico also makes his way to Sicily, their paths are fated to intersect in a violent showdown, a reckoning for sins committed in the past.
