Caesar escorts the Egyptian monarch Cleopatra to Rome, but the fervor of their romance is beginning to wane. Meanwhile, conspirators are plotting against both Caesar and Cleopatra. Each night, Cleopatra experiences a recurring dream in which her past lover is betrayed and murdered by his trusted companions. Her high priest interprets the dream as a prophetic vision, suggesting that the course of events is inevitable. Nevertheless, Cleopatra dispatches her envoys to alert Caesar, warning him that Brutus will be the one to deliver the deadly blow.
