Set in the year 2020, “The Days to Come” presents a dystopian vision where the European Union has disintegrated after the fourth Gulf War, and towering barricades are erected to prevent illegal immigrants from entering cities that are on the brink of collapse. Amidst this chaotic backdrop is the Kuper family, led by Walter, an executive in the energy sector. His daughter, Cecilia, has aligned herself with the Black Storm terrorist organization. Meanwhile, her sister Laura faces a dilemma between embracing motherhood and staying with the man she loves. Their brother, Philip, is drafted to fight for Germany in a futile conflict over the last oil reserves. Featuring acclaimed actors Daniel Brühl, Johanna Wokalek, and Jürgen Vogel, the film explores unsettling questions about contemporary issues by portraying a disturbingly plausible near-future scenario, intertwining personal and political narratives.
