This narrative recounts the real-life experiences of Freddy and Walter, two young Jewish men from Slovakia who were sent to Auschwitz in 1942. On April 10, 1944, after careful preparation and with the support and determination of their fellow prisoners, they successfully escape. As the inmates they left behind bravely confront the Nazi guards, Freddy and Walter are motivated by the hope that their testimony might save lives. Despite being weak and injured, they traverse the mountains to return to Slovakia. Through a series of fortuitous encounters, they eventually cross the border and connect with the resistance and The Red Cross. They document a comprehensive report detailing the systematic atrocities occurring at the camp. Yet, due to ongoing Nazi propaganda and international alliances, their story appears too shocking to be accepted as truth.
