The narrative follows a recently paroled white supremacist who has murdered a police officer and subsequently holds a black family captive. Garrett Tully, having just been released from 14 years in solitary confinement at the high-security Pelican Bay State Prison, finds himself fleeing once more. He stumbles upon a secluded house and takes the family inside hostage, believing the Aryan Brotherhood will support him, especially since his captives are black. The head of the family, Mr. Walker, is a disillusioned former convict with a deep-seated animosity towards law enforcement, to the extent that he cut ties with his own son for becoming a police officer. Recognizing a shared sense of desperation in Tully, Walker chooses not to involve the police, leading to rising tensions within the family and ultimately resulting in serious mistakes.
