Drawing inspiration from Sheridan LeFanu’s classic 19th-century vampire story, “Carmilla,” the film “STYRIA” immerses the audience in a world filled with fantasy and obsession. Set in 1989, the story follows Lara Hill (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) as she travels with her art historian father (portrayed by Stephen Rea) to a deserted castle located beyond the Iron Curtain. After a car accident near the castle, the enigmatic and alluring Carmilla appears. Lara secretly brings Carmilla into the castle, and the two form a captivating bond. However, when Carmilla vanishes without a trace and local women start taking their own lives, Lara’s psychological scars manifest into a terrifying reality that engulfs the entire town of Styria.
