Ming Wang, a gifted but destitute individual from China, escapes the Communist regime to establish himself as a trailblazing eye surgeon in the United States. Faced with the challenge of returning vision to an orphan in India, whose sight was taken by her stepmother, Wang is forced to revisit the painful memories of his turbulent youth during the Cultural Revolution.
