Kim resides with his father, peddles marijuana to skateboarders, composes poetry, and uses painkillers to cope with daily life. One night, while wandering through his neighborhood dressed as his alter ego, Shadow Zombie, he captures the attention of Brandi, a nurse who moonlights as a clown. Their ensuing short-lived romance is marred by the tangible ghosts of Kim’s bleak present and Brandi’s haunting past. Filmed in a near-documentary style in and around Lafayette, Louisiana, Jorge Torres-Torres fills his movie with a cast of authentic Acadiana eccentrics. The film’s unflinching and occasionally surprisingly touching portrayal of Kim’s existence dares to reveal the humanity within a drug user or a clown battling depression.
