In the aftermath of World War II in Britain, young Lewis Aldridge, at just ten years old, is overwhelmed with sorrow as he grapples with the loss of his cherished mother. With his father Gilbert, a man he hardly knows and who soon takes a new wife, being emotionally unavailable, Lewis finds himself having to suppress his emotions.
