In 1954 England, while traveling by train to London, Fitzwilliam encounters Miss Pinkerton. She informs him about a murderer at large in the quiet village of Wychwood under Ashe. Although the locals think the fatalities are accidental, Miss Pinkerton is convinced otherwise. When she is subsequently discovered dead en route to Scotland Yard, Fitzwilliam is compelled to identify the murderer before they claim another victim.
