Edward and Alphonse Elric are two brothers with a remarkable talent for alchemy, a science that involves transforming one substance into another. This practice is governed by the principle of Equivalent Exchange, which dictates that to create something, an equivalent value must be sacrificed. After their mother’s death, Edward makes a daring decision to defy one of alchemy’s greatest prohibitions by attempting to resurrect her through Human Alchemy. Believing they have nothing left to lose, the brothers proceed with their plan, but it goes disastrously wrong. As a result, Alphonse loses his entire body, and Edward loses his leg.
