Set in the closing days of World War II, the story follows Nomura (Masatoshi Nagase), a writer engulfed in despair. A woman, who now works in a bar, has a past as a prostitute. Her father, driven by the family’s dire financial situation, sold her to a brothel many years ago. The writer and the woman decide to live together as a married couple until the war concludes. The woman, scarred by her past, is unable to experience sexual pleasure, while the man is consumed by desire for her. Meanwhile, Ohira (Jun Murakami), a soldier who served in China, returns to Japan with only one arm after committing horrific acts against civilians during the war. Back home, he begins to target innocent women.
