“Radioactive Veteran” is a short documentary that tells the story of Marine Corps veteran Donald Guy and his wife, Mary. During the early 1950s, Donald was deployed to the Nevada Test Site by the military, where nuclear tests were being conducted. Alongside thousands of other Marines and soldiers, Donald was reassured of his safety as he watched the towering mushroom cloud and advanced through the desert towards the atomic explosion. However, within a few years, Donald began to suffer from severe health problems due to radiation exposure, eventually leading to his disability. He spent the rest of his life battling the Veterans Affairs for disability benefits, but he passed away in 2009 without receiving the compensation he deserved. For the following seven years, his widow Mary continued his quest for justice, a journey chronicled in “Radioactive Veteran.”
