In the year 2023, the city of Quito is enclosed by walls erected by Leonardo Ponce, a military dictator who seized power in the early 2010s. A band of insurgents, led by Marcos and Santiago, is on the brink of launching a coup. However, mere hours before their planned attack, Santiago begins to question their motives, prompting the group to reconsider their true intentions. Meanwhile, within Ponce’s palace, the dictator is attempting to unravel the mystery of the unusual activity at the city wall. When one of the rebels is captured, Ponce seeks to extract as much information as possible. Set in just two locations, “Quito 2023” delves into the personal struggles of the revolution’s leaders, the internal discord they face, and the despair of a region that defies governance.
