Television host Will Chaney is charming and a devoted father to his young son, Benjamin. Unfortunately, Ben is the only positive outcome from Will’s marriage. Due to the terms of their divorce, Will collects Ben from the Denver airport at the beginning of each major school break and tearfully returns him at the end. During these exchanges, Will encounters Jane, another divorcée who is there to pick up and drop off her daughter. Both Will and Jane, who are committed but reluctant part-time parents, avoid dating to protect their children from further emotional distress. Fortunately, their close friends—Will’s cameraman, Charlie, and Jane’s sister, Georgia—encourage them to start seeing each other. Once Ben becomes comfortable with the new dynamic and starts calling Will “dad” instead of by his name, he gives his approval and even prefers Jane over another woman Will had introduced him to, leading to Maddie’s departure. Ultimately, Will contemplates making a daring decision.
