In August 2013, a team of seven climbers, consisting of five Americans and two Burmese, embarked on a journey to northern Myanmar with the goal of being the first to scale what is considered Southeast Asia’s highest peak. Their expedition involved trekking over 270 miles on foot through some of the world’s most challenging landscapes. As Myanmar emerged from more than five decades of military rule and relative seclusion, the climbers had the unique opportunity to experience a culture largely untouched by the swift currents of globalization affecting the rest of the world. This film goes beyond documenting a mountaineering adventure; it explores a nation on the cusp of significant transformation and contemplates the potential implications for Myanmar’s future and its people.
