Audrey is a conventional music student at a large university in the Midwest, aspiring to build a career in classical music. However, her seemingly “ordinary” nature makes her stand out as an oddball within her family, which is composed of flamboyant performers. Her parents were funk and R&B icons in the 1970s, her brother is a dominant figure in the hip hop and fashion world, and her young sister is a savvy MC reminiscent of Lil’ Kim. Audrey feels a bit embarrassed by her family’s background and looks down on the vanity and excesses of pop culture, so she keeps her family a secret from her new boyfriend. This becomes increasingly challenging when her family decides to pay a visit, leaving the campus forever changed!
