In 2010, Kevin Tancharoen released a short film titled “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.” This film served as a proof of concept for Tancharoen’s proposal to Warner Brothers for a reboot of the movie franchise. The 8-minute short showcases a complex fight sequence choreographed by Larnell Stovall and reintroduces iconic Mortal Kombat characters such as Jax (played by Michael Jai White), Sonya Blade (portrayed by Jeri Ryan), Johnny Cage (played by Matt Mullins), Scorpion (portrayed by Ian Anthony Dale), Baraka (played by Lateef Crowder), and Shang Tsung (portrayed by James Lew).
