Drew, a geeky teacher, struggles to maintain order in her classroom and often finds herself intimidated by the class bully, opting to retreat rather than confront. Even the principal’s advice fails to inspire courage in her, leaving Drew seemingly resigned to a mediocre existence. This all changes with the onset of a zombie apocalypse. As the undead plague spreads rapidly, Drew escapes to the countryside, only to be challenged by her lack of survival skills, the oppressive Texas heat, and, naturally, the zombies. She soon realizes that avoiding her problems is akin to evading zombies—they inevitably catch up to you. Throughout her journey, Drew meets a variety of individuals who both aid and hinder her quest to discover the inner strength necessary to endure these grim times of relentless death and her bothersome new companions.
