In a lofty, ethereal chamber, a group of women stands in anticipation. It might be Purgatory, suggesting they are no longer among the living. Within this space, two young women—one an actress, the other a psychologist—observe the final days of their lives unfold on a television screen. Both are involved in extramarital affairs, and each has an extended interaction with the wife of her lover. These encounters occur in women’s restrooms: one behind the scenes of a play about to debut, the other during the first act at an opera house. The dynamics between the younger and older women evolve in unexpected ways. Meanwhile, in the room with the TV, a sprite-like figure poses insightful and challenging questions to the two young women as they watch.
