Kreola travels to Santa Domingo to reunite with her husband, Andy, a photographer. Initially, Andy feels envious of Marco, who is in town searching for his missing girlfriend, Iris. She vanished after a girls’ trip to Santa Domingo with her colleagues. Kreola and Andy spot Iris with Leon, a rough and commanding sea captain. Andy proposes that Kreola distract Leon to give Marco a chance to rescue Iris. Although Kreola initially dismisses the idea, she eventually becomes captivated by Leon. Andy’s writer friend, Jo Ann, attributes the island’s atmosphere to the tendency of typically conservative Westerners to shed their inhibitions. When Andy and Marco fail to break the hold Leon has over their partners, the situation becomes dire.
