In the midst of a jewelry theft, a young kangaroo is inadvertently caught up in the chaos, leading to her first separation from her mother. Scared and isolated, she is found by Ella, a savvy teenager who understands the heartache of losing a mother. Ella takes it upon herself to care for the kangaroo, whom she names Joey, and helps her recover.
