Sophie Marlow, a prominent attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions, is summoned back to her hometown of Waynesbridge, Washington, after the death of her great uncle. Uncle Henry bequeathed Sophie a 60% stake in his expansive Marlow Maple Meadows, a vast sugar maple forest. Although Sophie hasn’t visited the estate in many years, she soon finds herself reminiscing about her joyful childhood there. During her visit, she reunites with Sam, a childhood friend she hasn’t seen in ages. Sam has also returned to the farm after discovering that Henry left him the remaining 40% of the property. While the logical step seems to be selling the inherited land, Sophie and Sam soon realize that neither is quite ready to part with it.
