In Somalia, a young and principled man named Abdi, who is both a husband and father, resorts to piracy as a means to provide for his family. His wife and child remain in Yemen, and his sole link to them is an old, unreliable satellite phone. Abdi and his pirate crew venture into the ocean and seize a French oil tanker, demanding a substantial ransom. As they endure the prolonged and monotonous wait for the money, Abdi forms a fragile bond with one of the captives. When some of his fellow pirates turn to violence, Abdi is faced with making crucial decisions that will shape his future path.
