From the age of five, Jose’s grandmother instilled in him the art of chess, a legacy from his grandfather, a former champion in Mexico. Now, as a member of the Brownsville school chess team, Jose has the opportunity to showcase his talents and, for the first time, steps into the limelight as he strives to lead his team to the Texas state finals. Under the guidance of their coach, Mr. Alvarado, who emphasizes the importance of perseverance and teamwork amidst challenges, Jose uncovers his own abilities and uses them to mend his fractured family.
