In 1920s Romania, Mihail returns to his hometown after spending several years abroad, intending to propose to Elena, who has recently become a widow. However, his resolve falters, and he turns to the village’s elderly priest for advice. The situation becomes more complex when Mihail learns that Elena has another admirer, Mândru. Meanwhile, the villagers plan a wedding for the couple, even though they have not yet expressed their emotions to each other. Despite initially deciding to leave with Mândru, Elena learns of Mihail’s affection for her, and they end up as the bride and groom at the wedding organized by the villagers.
