After a decade in New York City, Sheldon makes his way back to his hometown of Paris, Georgia. His mother, Evelyn, a laundress known for her stubbornness, cantankerous nature, strong opinions, and harsh demeanor, has sent a ten-year-old boy claiming to be Sheldon’s son to meet him. Sheldon returns to sort out the situation. Old disputes reignite between him and his mother, as well as with his brother. Sheldon is reluctant to embrace the roles of fatherhood and family. Complicating matters further, another individual from New York arrives at Evelyn’s doorstep, introducing a fresh set of challenges. Will this family ever resolve their ongoing conflicts? And what about Sheldon: where is his sense of self-worth? Can he, as James Baldwin suggests, follow his true calling and live the life he desires?
