In her late thirties and navigating her first divorce, Randi finds herself embodying the term “hot mess.” At a party, she unexpectedly encounters Vince, an old high school friend of her younger brother. Vince, too, is grappling with his own issues, trying to overcome a troubled past and a battle with drug addiction, while Randi faces the challenges of her newfound solitude. As they lean on each other, they embark on a complicated relationship. Randi faces opposition from her friends, family, and colleagues, who all warn her that Vince is a disaster waiting to happen. Meanwhile, Vince is caught in a struggle between his past and present, with his ex, Summer, determined to keep him from moving on. Through their journey, Randi and Vince come to understand that everyone faces difficult choices in life, and regardless of whether those choices are right, wrong, or indifferent, decisions must be made.
