Great Performances showcases the New York Philharmonic’s concert version of Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed musical “Company,” featuring a star-studded ensemble. Originally debuting in 1970, this innovative musical saw Broadway revivals in 1995 and 2006. “Company” follows the story of Bobby, a lifelong bachelor, as he marks his 35th birthday with his ten closest friends, who are five married couples. This gala concert production by the New York Philharmonic was helmed by Sondheim expert Lonny Price, with Neil Patrick Harris portraying Bobby and Patti LuPone as Joanne. The performance was recorded at Avery Fisher Hall within New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and was first broadcast on THIRTEEN’s Great Performances during the PBS Arts Fall Festival.
