I’m stationed in the South of France, specifically at the cutting-edge Formula One Circuit Paul Ricard, on a quest to discover my top car of the year. Among the contenders are two Ferraris: the V12, 6.3-liter FF and the 458. Competing with the 458 is the UK’s McLaren MP4-12C. There’s also the tech-savvy Nissan GTR, Porsche’s GT2 RS, the 570-horsepower Lamborghini Performante, and the entertaining BMW 1M. Assisting me are The Stig and Formula One newcomer, Karun Chandhok. I’m also exploring future possibilities with the hybrid-engine Mugen Honda CR-Z. Nostalgia is in the air with the stunning Eagle Speedster, a modern take on the classic E-Type, boasting a 4.7-liter engine and a staggering £500,000 price tag. Additionally, there’s the brand-new Jensen Interceptor R, equipped with a 6.2-liter Corvette engine, and the formidable Brutus, a vintage car powered by a flame-throwing BMW airplane engine. Not to be overlooked is the B.A.C. Mono, a single-seater that accelerates from 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds. What more could one desire?
