
The narrative follows the real-life journey of Charlotte Salomon, a young Jewish artist from Germany, as she matures in Berlin just before World War II. With a vivid imagination and exceptional talent, she aspires to pursue a career in art. Her initial romantic interest supports her artistic abilities, strengthening her determination. However, as anti-Jewish laws incite violent unrest, she flees to the relative safety of Southern France. There, she resumes her painting and discovers a new romance. Her creative process is disrupted once more by a family tragedy that uncovers a darker secret. Convinced that only a remarkable act can save her, she sets out on the ambitious task of painting the story of her life.
