Cathy, a six-year-old, is placed by a social worker into a foster home in the countryside. There, she gradually adapts to the strict regulations set by her foster mother, Réjeanne. Luckily, her foster father, Reynald, is kind-hearted and gentle, and he patiently helps her come out of her shell. Meanwhile, twelve-year-old Kayla is sent to a group home, where she befriends Morgane, a rebellious teen with plans to escape. Around the same time, Manu is released from the system on her 18th birthday, but she struggles to adjust to life on her own. The paths of all four cross at a reception celebrating a foster family they all once lived with.
