Bernice “Bernie” Rhodenbarr, a professional thief, also manages a bookstore. Her companion, Carl Hefler, works as a dog groomer. Following a successful heist, Bernie finds herself in a predicament when a corpse is discovered in the home she robbed. Being the sole suspect linked to the crime scene, she must employ her illicit expertise to prove her innocence in the murder case while also evading charges for the burglary.
