Fritz Brown, a former LAPD officer and recovering alcoholic, now divides his time between repossessing cars for a used car dealership and running his solo private investigation business. One day, a disheveled caddie named Freddy “Fat Dog” Baker enters Fritz’s office, brandishing a stack of cash. Fat Dog hires Fritz to keep an eye on his younger sister, Jane, who is currently living with a wealthy older man in Beverly Hills named Sol Kupferman. Kupferman, a 70-year-old mob courier, is suspected by Fat Dog of plotting something sinister that could endanger Jane. As Fritz follows the leads, he is confronted by his troubled past, particularly in the form of Haywood Cathcart, the current head of LAPD internal affairs and the man responsible for his dismissal from the force.
