In an unspecified country, a novice journalist named Vivian approaches Frederick, the caretaker of the nation’s oldest cemetery, for an interview. Frederick recounts the tale of two “clients” linked by a mysterious secret. The narrative begins with the influential mobster Jimmie Levinson, who accuses his ex-associate Paul Pattuchi of pilfering a shipment of cocaine and orders the murder of Paul’s cherished girlfriend, Clarice. Subsequently, Paul is discovered dead in a cabin. During a dinner gathering, Jimmie and his companions are visited first by Robert Downing, followed by the sadistic Mortimer and his accomplice Rick, who are in pursuit of the truth about Paul and a suitcase containing an enigmatic artifact. The second tale unfolds in the Middle Ages, where the ruthless David Deming and his henchman Tom Brewster pursue the defector priest James Flynn under the guise of the Inquisition, but their true aim is to extract the secret of the Eternal Heart to achieve immortality.
