Adventurer Bruce Wayne inadvertently releases a long-dormant malevolence and comes back to Gotham City after a 20-year absence. In Gotham, Batman confronts supernatural entities reminiscent of Lovecraft’s work and crosses paths with both allies and adversaries, including Green Arrow, Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Two-Face, and James Gordon.
