After spending several years abroad for work and travel, April comes back to Toronto to assist her sister, Sara, in looking after their ailing mother. During her stay, April stumbles upon hidden family secrets that could disrupt the fragile harmony at home. Meanwhile, Sara, who is researching the music of French composer Erik Satie, forms a friendship with a homeless man named Erik, who might be linked to their mother’s past love life. At the same time, April is uncertain about accepting a marriage proposal from Oscar, her long-distance boyfriend whom she met during her travels. The narrative reaches its peak on the night of their mother’s birthday dinner, when Oscar unexpectedly arrives from Argentina and Sara’s homeless acquaintance joins the festivities.
