Jonna, an orphan yearning for a mother, is surprised when an old car arrives at the orphanage and a gorilla emerges, choosing her for adoption. As they begin to bond, they discover they share more similarities than they first realized. Just as they start to form a family, Tord from the local government appears, threatening to return Jonna to the orphanage.
