In his first year at college, Brandon is determined to concentrate on his academics, but he repeatedly realizes that his true passion lies in dance. His nerdy roommate, Nate, suggests they form a dance crew, but their initial efforts to find other freestyle dancers are unsuccessful. Undeterred, they broaden their search throughout the city and recruit a break-dancer, a performance artist, a Bhangra dancer, an animator, a ballerina, and a ballroom dance mom to join their new team. The chance for Brandon to demonstrate to himself and his family that he and his crew have the talent to succeed as dancers comes with a national dance competition, where his former crew, Levelz, is the main attraction.
