As the bakery’s fortunes decline, Gao-bing is at a loss for solutions, resorting to working harder and producing more bread. Ping, Mr. Chiu’s daughter and Gao-bing’s girlfriend, grew up alongside him. She frequently criticizes Gao-bing for sticking to traditional methods and not taking bold steps to rescue the bakery. To create innovative new flavors, Ping enrolls in baking classes in the city, where she encounters Bread. An American with a captivating and witty personality, Bread is immediately smitten with Ping.
