The remarkable life of Doc Pomus stands as one of the lesser-known yet significant narratives in American music history. Born Jerome Felder in Brooklyn, he was stricken with polio during childhood, which left him paralyzed. Despite this, he transformed himself into a blues singer under the name Doc Pomus and became one of the most gifted songwriters of the early rock and roll period. His impressive repertoire includes classics like “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “This Magic Moment,” “A Teenager in Love,” and “Viva Las Vegas,” among many others. This documentary, driven and co-produced by his daughter Sharyn Felder, is rich with exceptional music and rare archival footage. It includes interviews with his collaborators and friends such as Dr. John, Ben E. King, Joan Osborne, Shawn Colvin, Dion, Leiber and Stoller, and B.B. King. Additionally, it features excerpts from Doc’s personal journals, narrated by his close friend Lou Reed.
