In the final days of World War II, the quiet, mountainous village of Vermiglio becomes the backdrop for a series of significant and dramatic occurrences. These events are triggered by the arrival of a reserved Sicilian soldier who has deserted the army and taken refuge in the village. During his stay, he becomes romantically involved with the eldest daughter of a local family.
