What are the boundaries of free expression? “Troll Storm” chronicles the ordeal of Tanya Gersh, a Jewish woman from Montana, who became the target of a relentless antisemitic social media assault and her subsequent decision to seek justice through the legal system. “The moment I chose to fight, I began to heal,” she reflects in this compelling documentary. Although the main events of this narrative occurred several years ago, the recent surge of antisemitism sweeping across the nation makes this story particularly pertinent. Gersh incorporates interviews with a Holocaust survivor to serve as a stark warning of the potential consequences if this culture of hatred is not addressed. In her latest film, “Accept the Call” (WFF 2019), director Eunice Lau draws a chilling parallel between pre-Nazi Europe and Gersh’s experience. – Sabina Barach
