Sir John Falstaff, seeking some amusement, pens identical letters to two married women, Mistress Ford and Mistress Page. Upon discovering his scheme, the two women conspire to play a series of pranks on the knight to give him a taste of his own medicine. However, Mistress Ford’s husband, who is extremely suspicious, is trying to extract details about the supposed affair from Falstaff. At the same time, the Pages’ daughter, Anne, finds herself surrounded by eager suitors.
