Valdis Nulle, an eager and aspiring captain of the fishing vessel ‘Dzintars’, has his own ideas about fishing techniques, but the sea has its own set of rules. The collective farm management is compelled to assign questionable individuals to his crew, such as the ex-captain Bauze and the quiet alcoholic Juhans. Nulle is inexperienced in managing such a large group of fishermen. Suddenly, the attractive engineer Sabīne is tasked with testing a newly designed fishing net on Nulle’s ship, leading to a ‘production conflict’ between her and the captain.
