Two Cents Worth of Hope
Watch Trailer
This film marks the third installment in director Castellani’s “young love” trilogy, following “Sotto il sole di Roma” (1948) and “È primavera…” (1950). The narrative revolves around the love story between Carmela (played by Fiore) and Antonio (portrayed by Musolino). Initially, the passion is unreciprocated, but Carmela is a resolute young woman, ready to overcome any barrier to win the affection of her beloved. Once Antonio is captivated, he hustles from one job to another to demonstrate his financial stability. Confronted by their parents’ disapproval, Carmela and Antonio dramatically renounce all obligations to others in a bold, climactic gesture of defiance.
