The film narrates the largely factual tale of Abraham Lincoln and his unofficial protector, U.S. Marshal Ward Hill Lamon. Lamon, a banjo-strumming Southerner, thwarted numerous assassination attempts on the President and supported him through the most challenging periods of the Civil War.
